Thread Name: WANTED: Eric Bogle Songbook
Subject: RE: WANTED: Eric Bogle Songbook
How's she cuttin', Bob? It will be interesting to compare what I get from Dale with your Oz versions. Might be some stuff there I want to copy. I would love to meet this guy one day. Guess I will just have to come to Oz, eh? I always thought it would be interesting to get the take of a songwriter as to what they thought of someone else's interpretation of one of their "babies". I have always thought that Bogle's version of his own songs were damn near perfect. I know that sounds odd, but if one were to listen to some of the Smithsonian Folkways recordings of Woody Gutherie singing some of his stuff, .......... well, some, and just a few, seem to lack the interpretation. I don't think this odd at all. Oft times the author doesn't realize what it is that will resonate with the great unwashed. That is definitely not the case with Bogle. He has a message, he knows exactly what he wants to communicate, and does it in a very powerful way. I have but one criticism (as if he gives a dried up aul shite what I think...........LOL).........what the hell was he thinking when he wrote "little Gomez" and "Nobody's Moogie". hahahahahahahahahahaha

All the best

Mick
