Back when I used to perform on a fairly regular basis I used a Lowden F model which was a good "tweener" guitar, worked well for strumming and fingerstyle, but in a more casual setting where I have multiple instruments I'll use a large body guitar if I'm singing and playing with a flat pick (I love feeling that thrum against my chest) and a 000 size for fingerpicking. While the audience may not be able to hear the difference in particular instruments, especially when they're filtered through sound systems, using a different instrument may still affect the performance, I know it does for me.
