Subject: RE: Lyr Req: WWII Song:'Come bury me out in Benghazi'
My Dad was a sergeant in the 17/21 Lancers and was deployed to Greece and Palestine. This is the version as I remember him singing it.

Out in the Western desert
Under the Libyan sun
There lay a poor British Tommy
Shot down by an enemy gun
As he raised himself up on one elbow
These were the last words he said
Just bury me outside Benghazi
And don’t tell my mother I’m dead
Oh when you get back to Blighty
And you march down the street with the band
Just remember the poor British Tommy
Under the Libyan sand
Oh we fought for the freedom you asked for
We fought for your freedom and won
So remember the poor British Tommy
Under the Libyan sun
