I regret to inform all lovers of freedom that the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, by a vote of 2-1, has, in the case of Eldred v. Reno, ruled effectively in favor of the U.S. government's contemptuous degradation (made at the request of the entertainment industry) of the entire concept of the public domain. The plaintiffs are weighing the question of whether to ask for en banc rehearing, or to go straight to the top and ask the Supreme Court go hear the case.
