I haven't seen the Rumpelstiltskin episode.

Oh this must be our man. If born in 1887 then in 1949 he'd've been 63. The novel hss smatterings of both Scots and Gaelic as do his earlier poems.

Headingley is about two and half hours on a (modern) train south of Newcastle.

At the beginning of the typescript are two pages of interest. One states:

While due allowance must be made for the pen of the novelist, many of the events recorded in this book are true in fact. It may be that the narrative has suffered in the English telling, but Hills of Yesterday, nevertheless, is presented as an accurate picture of life in many Highland pariahes during the period of social and theological upheaval that occurred during the first hair of last century.
