It has nothing to do with "messing with nature". This modern world needs some way to define local time as well as knowing when it is safe to call a business somewhere else. In the USA, we know California is 3 hours behind New York..... think about how we'd keep track if it was 1400 everywhere. If one want's to almost totally avoid the issue, about the only answer is to live as a hermit in some isolated woods.
