I must admit, the last time I looked at a thesis from the Newcastle department it filled me with incomprehension and rage at how they could possibly have been passed it: the writing was so shoddy, the level of presumption so naive and the attitude to research was so lazy.

But at first glance over the first couple of pages, Ord's looks a lot more conscientious.
