In verse 4, whether or not David wrote it as "hoves up," it should be "heaves up." Hove is past tense and heave is present tense. Additionally, in nautical parlance, a vessel may heave to or loom up [on the horizon or through the fog] but again, "hoves up" is incorrect and ungrammatical. Sorry to be pedantic but people often misuse nautical concepts.
