Oh, I have been waiting for that. In fact I expected it hours ago.

I have little doubt that Ashworth was giving his honest thoughts. I don't buy the 'banter' excuse.   

Ashworth has been opposed to Corbyn for a long time - he was opposed to Corbyn becoming leader, for example. There have always been a section of Parliamentarians who think losing this election is worth it if they can get rid get of Corbyn, and it looks as if Ashworth is in that group. And, yes, it makes it much harder for Labour to focus on the NHS rather than the stupidity of his behaviour.

I am sure what he said is a reasonably accurate account of his view. That may or may not match reality. We will find out in 48 hours or so.
