Subject: RE: when was the Bonny ship the diamond lost
thanks for the loads of information.
sitting here looking at a family history, my ancestor was Captain Alexander Young Jr., the captain of the Eliza Swan.
I was aware of the taken and held for ransom story.
I was told that the revolutionaries had boarded the ship by disguising as Britons and ordered the crew below so they were able to surprise the Captain John Young at the time (brother of Alexander) to commandeer the ship.
The ship sat in Boston harbor for months (and the Captain in captivity) before the ship was released.
I don't think the King was interested in paying the ransom.

Alexander is mentioned as captain of many other ships such as The Jane and the Monarch
