Thread Name: Regional British TV folk programmes
Subject: RE: Regional British TV folk programmes
Ray, I was asking originally whether there are ANY UK TV programmes in ENGLAND, featuring 'folk' singers actually performing, however you define 'folk'.
Nobody has pointed out anything at all, so it seems not, and I am contrasting that with the TV of about 50/60 years ago.
There have been many posts demonstrating the number of programmes giving a platform to 'folk' performers in the past- not superstars, just working, maybe semi-pro performers.
We have a limited archive of folk performers from years ago & Mudcat threads like this are very informative, but really, what will WE be handing down to the folkies of 2070?
It seems TV is old technology, but is YouTube any substitute for live folk performance, such as 'Barn Dance'
