GUEST, I've found that, for me, the best way to approach Hurt's music is to understand his basic style and the standard licks he uses to construct each piece. Once you've done that, you'll be able to "see" his fingers with your ears. Learning new Hurt tunes will become much easier. You may not wind up with a note-perfect transscription but is that what you're really after?
