Recently I read a detective novel by the Australian writer Garry Disher. (I'm American.) The book was no prize winner, but it seemed a fine source of interesting new Australian terms for us to talk about. Mudcatters, it seems, are always interested in the English language. So here they are, not all of them at once.

What do they mean? What emotions attend them? (e.g., are they vulgar, arch, juvenile, dated?) etc
