I tend to think of Ego as a possible enemy to myself and trust the more expansive subconscious that is close to the surface. My ego would say that my opinion must apply to others, my subconscious says "I could be wrong, maybe it is only my adaptation"

My conclusion is that some people haven't shared so much as a cup of coffee with their inner and outer voice. In some cases there is nothing wrong with that. Left unchecked it may turn into narcicism or delusion.

This may be old thinking since Freud was making it up as he went along.
