We live in a bungalow. (Everyone in UK calls our type of house by this Hindi/Urdu word, derived from 'bangla') Bungalows used to be regarded/disparaged as houses for the elderly, being on one floor only. But I've seen recently that young families prize them, having no stairs and quite large gardens. Ours has gone up considerably in value during the last ten years. (up by £50,000!!!)
There are dozens of words from the Raj days in our language. Gymkhana, juggernaut, chutney etc.
