My neighbour and I heard the very loud drumming of a woodpecker yesterday, in the little wood next to our village. I think (judging by the volume!) it was probably a Greater Spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major).
The birds here are all sounding 'perky' and 'giving it the big'un' for Spring. The weather has been so weird that they're confused.
