Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ned the Lighthouse Keeper
Hi Joe,

Apologies for delayed reply.

I’m not sure if it’s the same song Alison was looking for all those many years ago.

But basically, my dad (Peter) wrote a song in his early 20’s (he’s 70 now!) he called it Ned the light house keeper.

It’s was a parody inspired by a saucy seaside postcard (typical of British humour!).

He used to play it on his banjo and sing it in folk clubs with 4 friends, one of which was called John. I think he said the band was called Wedgewood blues. I believe John moved out to Australia (this would all be many moons ago!).

The lyrics for the last verse are:

‘Get out and get a job my old man said to me, a life away from woman a life away at sea, a light house job was just the thing, I’d wish I’d started sooner, and at times like this it’s not so bad being Ned the light house keeper!’ (Or similar I may have wrote them down wrong!)

But my dad does have all the lyrics and if it is the song he’d be happy to share!

Just for information, my dad came across this thread when he was talking to a friend about his past when he was in a folk band. His friend looked up Ned the light house keeper up on google, hence finding this thread.

Anyway very interesting if we are talking about the same song and maybe an old friend of my dads, and hopefully a piece of an old puzzle for Alison!

Kind regards,

Josie (Peter’s daughter!)
