Gordon Brown, when he was Tony Blair's chancellor, had the 'wonderful idea' of taxing the future. He got all those new hospitals on a kind of 'hire purchase' or 'never-never' system called PFI. He didn't have to pay up front. It would all be payed for by future tax payers. That's us, now. A significant part of current NHS budget goes into paying off that debt.
