Thread Name: Origins: Queen Eleanor's Confession (Child #156)
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen Eleanor's Confession (Child #156)
This was one of the two ballads sung and discussed in Bob Askew's Ballad Chat at C#H on Tuesday. I'm reviving this thread again to raise a query.

The sleeve notes of The Hale and the Hanged say "Two old tunes are known for it, but Gordon McCulloch prefers a new one, composed by Bobby Campbell". One of those "old tunes" is obviously the one in Bronson from Motherwell, as sung in recent times by Tim Hart and Maddy Prior (and probably by others). But what was the other one?

Joe Offer 13 Nov 01 - 05:04 PM quoted the Nyles tune, but I am struggling to make any sense of that and how it could fit the words.
