A treble jig, in Irish step dancing, is a jig (i.e. a double jig, in 6/8 time) played at a slower tempo, and to which the dancers dance with the hard shoes.

When hornpipes, on recordings for Irish step dance practice/performance, are played at a slower tempo ("Oireachtas tempo"), the musicians will often play them in a 6/8 or 12/8 rhythm, instead of the dotted hornpipe rhythm.
