I have made home-made crumpets before. You'd need yeast and flour of course, but it just takes a bit of time and patience. The trick is to mix the batter & yeast and then leave it for about an hour, then add baking powder etc and let it sit for another 30 mins. They were worth the effort but required a bit of pre-planning and a lot of patiently waiting. Remember, a watched crumpet batter never rises.
