It depends how much of this selfishly horded food gets thrown away uneaten in bins..

Semi fresh refrigerated foods easily catch up beyond use by dates before folks realise it..

I always go by what it looks and smells like, rather than dates..
and if in doubt boil suspect meat to buggery with plenty of garlic and curry sauce..

I hate chucking food away...
