One of our neighbours has a daughter who is a veterinary nurse and a shepherdess.
She keeps her flock of sheep in another village not too near ours.
Saturday night a group of lads got horribly drunk in that village and at midnight were creating mayhem around the place. No-one called the Police unfortunately. On Sunday morning she went to check on the flock and found one ewe lying dead with her head bashed in, and a yearling lamb with a ripped foot and a hole in his head.
She called the Police but they weren't interested.
The yearling is called Merlin, and the vet treated him. I think the hole in its head was due to a crossbow bolt, and the ripped foot was from trying to escape in a panic.
She has Merlin at home on a lead, and brought him to see us. Dear little chap.
I sat and cried. How utterly disgusting - I just can't put it out of my mind.
