Well I'm not having this apocalypse malarkey. It's bad but it's not going to be an apocalypse (I tell myself). Driving back from my mum's care home this afternoon (I haven't been allowed in for two weeks and she's too deaf for the telephone, so I dropped in a bottle of Bailey's and a nice letter), I put Sgt Pepper on and was singing my head off, "Yes I admit it's getting better (it can't get no worse...)" and made meself laugh when I sang that line. Right now I'm sitting outside my house (I have no neighbours within a quarter of a mile) in lovely spring sunshine. The robins and wrens and a chiffchaff are singing away and I have Beethoven's Pastoral playing on YouTube. Make sure you google the Carlos Kleiber version... Plenty of negatives to come to belabour us but let's grab the occasional positive too...

So my apocalypse song is the Beatles singing Getting Better, even though it CAN get worse...
