Mr. Wagner was more round than tall and had a backyard as steep as 45 degrees. He labored at digging a double terrace. When he got older he decided to use extra long railroad ties to trim the vertical earth that wanted to give way. He should have used stone but railroad ties seemed better. The work was harder the older he got and he liked his beer.
By the time he finished he had handcut and fit nearly 50 rail road ties.
He averaged one lost finger every five rail road ties since the saw would bind and surprise him. Today the job is done and Mr. Wagner has his thumbs and one finger.
The moral of this story is that perspiration and perseverence
is foolish when it becomes severence, go finger.
