Subject: RE: Origins: Hoodah Day Shanty/Banks of the Sacramento
Albert J. Porter, "Drift from the Seven Seas," San Francisco Chronicle (June 18, 1911), p. 29:

"One of the most favorite of the windlass chanties was 'Blow for California.' It began:

We're bound for California I heard the old man say,
First chorus--To me hoodah, to me hoodah.
We're bound for California this very good day.
Second chorus--To me hoodah, hoodah day.
Blow, boys, blow for California,
There is planty of gold, so I've been told,
On the banks of the Sacramento."

The solo lines can be squashed to fit the tune.
