Thread Name: Lyr Add: Gone, Never Rise Again
Subject: Lyr Add: Gone, Never Rise Again
I wrote this in 1987 after being inspired by Sy Khan's "Gone, Gonna Rise Again. I presented it today's singaround and appreciated the comments it got.

Gone, never rise again
May, 1987       Eric P. Russell

Melody: Gone, Gonna Rise Again

I remember when my boat went down,
    Gone, never rise again;
She went down in Long Island Sound,
    Gone, never rise again.

She was a schooner long past her prime,
    GNRA;
Clean of curve and fine of line,
    GNRA.

She spewed her cotton off Fisher's Isle,
    GNRA;
Caulking came out and the water ran wild,
    GNRA.

Water in the Hold, running round and round,
    GNRA;
Pumps working hard, couldn't keep it down
    GNRA.

The engine ran until it drowned,
    GNRA;
Coast Guard came up as she went down,
    GNRA.

We left her there to die her death,
    GNRA;
She'd served us well and deserved her rest,
    GNRA.

Now, on the bottom she does lie,
    GNRA;
'Twas a fitting way for a boat to die,
    GNRA, GNRA, GNRA.
