Subject: RE: Phonograph to Folk Revival – My Project
Regarding recordings made in Hampshire from above.....It is one of the mysteries of those times..Who actually made those recordings? I know that RVW "corrected" the tunes from listening to these cylinder recordings - it says so in the EFDS Journal..BUT it is NOT clear who made them.
IMO - it was more likely to be Gardiner and/or one of his musical collaborators than RVW, as he did not seem to use them very much in his other "collections".
I would love to know the answer to this...but I think at present it is un-knowable...pure speculation.
I also know that Bob Askew believes it was Gardiner, et al......
I am not arguing with Nick (Hi mate...)...we just don't really know.

By the way - love the project...mixing old and new is right up my street.
