Thom Moore (1943-2018)
Thom Moore was inspired to write this song about the love story of Michael Woods and the Cavan Girl, Rita Munday, after meeting them in 1978.
Michael Woods from Killeshandra in Cavan County met Rita Munday from Belturbet also in Cavan County while they were both in New York in 1964.
They fell in love and went back to Ireland in 1968 and married.
They had five children. Rita died in 2016.
