Meanwhile has anyone researched and recorded work songs / chants from other sailing communities? On the recent re-airing of Michael Palin's "Around the World in 80 Days" he (and his film crew) catch hitch a lift on a working dhow from Dubai to Bombay

In Dubai they hitch a lift on a very primitive sailing boat [dhow] and come close to danger in the Strait of Hormuz when the engine fails and they drift among the mines sown during the Iran-Iraq war."

The Beeb included much footage of them sailing on the dhow, including shots of the dhow's crew hauling ropes fo song / chants - for real.
