Interesting discussion of one of my favorite songs.

This is the first I've heard of the "2" version up there, and I'd like to know which is which. I've only known the first version. They're obviously related thematically, but the melodies are very different.

I think switching gender is unpardonable--this is so much the song of a young woman in love, and vulnerably so, since she's in love with a soldier who lives a perilous life.
