The words were written by police sergeant Donald Nicolson who was an uncle of the Gaelic poet, Sorley Maclean, and was stationed in Kyle. The tune was written by Chrissie Cameron who was born in St Likda. The daughter of a missionary, her family was among the last to leave the islands and she eventually settled in Kyle where she was a teacher.
