You might find Cross Lake on a map north Frontenac County or it might be called Crotch Lake. it is known locally as Crotch Lake. Some people consider Crotch to be obscene and call the long lake Crutch Lake. King's Falls or Chute separates the larger Crotch Lake above from King's Lake. To get to it you have to take Morrow Road off 509 4 miles below Snow Road. There is a gate and a 4 km walk awaits you till you get to the riverbank of King's Lake. My husband and his family rented a cottage on that riverbank for 60 years. The cottages are closed now and will probably never re-open. Discovering this song and the commentary by Edith Fowke shocked my greatly. To think that someone 142 years ago died right in front of your cottage!
