This was the best general Martin Carthy thread (not closed) I could find, and try to utilize existing threads when I just have a comment.
So, I spent most of the day discovering/exploring Ewan MacColl, and assumed I'd be continuing that for a few days straight...and then, on a random lark...I listened to Essential Martin Carthy...dangamighty!
I hate to make "bold statements" under the influence of initial discovery "excitement", but this fellow is, well, inexpressibly awesome at the very least.

I very much love the following quote:

Pound for pound I think Martin might just be my favorite discovery since Bob Dylan.
