I remember the original events from the time. I was a student living in an International House and among our far origins were an Egyptian girl, her Israeli boyfriend, and a grad student fresh from Palestine. We were all out watching Bicentennial fireworks and discussing whether the Israelis were preparing to give up the imprisoned terrorists that were being demanded or were playing for time. We all thought they were playing for time. And indeed that was the day of the Israeli rescue operation. And the Isreli commando leader who died was the big brother of the guy now running Israel.
