Are we supposed to throw out all the traditional songs about murder, Leenia? There are an awful lot of them, but songs like this don't glorify killing. They usually acknowledge it as a tragedy.

I'm responding because you made a similar aort of comment on an 8th of Jan Battle of New Orleans thread.

I did in past years hear both Dick Gaughan and Peggy Seeger say they no longer sing old ballads as so many are about royalty and aristocracy (Gaughan) or support patriarchy (Seeger). I still think there is something of value in the old songs.
