Subject: Tune Req: Duet for small pipes and voice?
Hi, new to Mudcat, long-time occasional visitor.
A friend of mine plays the Northumbrian small pipes. I am a singer. We're trying to find something to collaborate on.
The challenges:
* He needs sheet music to learn from.
* I'm a woman with a fairly typical vocal range (E3 - F5). I prefer to stay in the lower range though.
* Apparently we need to stick to Mixolydian mode
* I need a tune with lyrics, English or some recognizable twist thereon (dialect is OK)
We were thinking of Mingulay Boat Song but ... I'm not feeling it. Something a little more acerbic like Peter Bellamy's settings of Kipling's verse is more my style.
I can arrange a descant but first I have to find a tune that we both like and can both learn/play.
I've been spiraling around YouTube, mainlynorfolk, and now these forums for hours, and haven't found much. Figured some of you might have ideas at the ready, though.
Thanks!
