A new thread, started yesterday and already closed last night, reminded me of this song. I thought I had posted a comment about it somewhere before but I can't find one here, so here goes.

Apart from any other considerations, one feature of the song has always put me right off it; the reference in the chorus to "the waters blue". The song writer failed to engage brain when including that stock phrase. Given the references to "the raging storm" and "the dashing spray", the sea would have looked a deary grey, not at all blue.
