Ian and Sylvia started performing together in Toronto in 1959. They had to move to New York for commercial reasons - there simply wasn't a circuit in Canada that would provide work all year long. By 1962, they were living in New York City, where they caught the attention of Albert Grossman.

Sylvia; We were managed by Albert Grossman and signed to ITA, a booking agency best known for their work with the Kingston Trio. They specialized in booking college concerts, and for the next ten or so years we toured the United States extensively.
