This is of course originally in French, from the medieval poet François Villon. The German verses above were re-penned, not translated, by the expressionist lyricist Paul Zech.

Red Hair sung by Schotte has another English translation:

In summer was the grass so deep,
With every wind beyond to sweep
That’s when I felt your blood so tight.
And as it shivered down my spine,
Your lips just softly kissing mine,
My heart and soul were lifting like a kite,
And suddenly for sure I knew
Your red hair makes me fall in love with you.

In summer flowers everywhere
they didn’t shine like your red hair.
But now the grass is mowed and nothing will remain.
When flowers do not bloom no more,
And chilly winds blow from the shore
There is no use of wandering again.
And there’s no need for white clouds, too.
Your red hair makes me fall in love with you.

They say there will be children soon,
when we make love beneath the moon,
so red like blood and white as snow.
When children use to come at fall
We’ll also watch our baby crawl.
In wintertime you’ll stay my red-haired doe.
I love you every day anew.
Your red hair makes me fall in love with you.
