Thread Name: BS: How to be a better person
Subject: RE: BS: How to be a better person
My stumbling block is how does one decide what a 'better person' is? For example, I've always thought kindness to be a most important thing. But it can backfire and cause problems. Give a tenner to a beggar in the street. Will they use it to buy alcohol/drugs? Support someone financially and they can become dependent, which is bad for them.
Another questionable quality is friendliness/chattiness. I'm terrible for this. Yap yap yap. People do like to talk with me, and it's better than being taciturn. But enough is enough.
Strictness can be a good thing with children. They need a bit of discipline. But one can be too severe.
It's a minefield.
Do you reckon one can change ones inner character and personality?
I'm not sure.
