Some of the posts here seem to imply that the Hebridean (Scottish) Gaelic speaking immigrants were slave owners. This would not have been the case as they had been banished from Scotland themselves, driven from their homes by landowners who put sheep to graze in their place - their houses burnt behind them. It was called the Highland Clearances. Many of them would have been working alongside the enslaved people.
