Thread Name: songs from English Civil War
Subject: RE: songs from English Civil War
The Puritan John Bunyan's 1684 hymn 'He would valiant be' is excellent not quite civil war but he was a contemporary. The original worlds evoke a folkloric world of hobgoblins and pilgrims. Very much a time in which science and magic overlap. A brilliant modern folk song is Steeleye Span's 'Montrose' it tells the tale of James Graham. A Scot and Charles's most competent general, a chivalric anachronism in his own time.
