Upthread in '04 was a brief discussion of "Johnny, Fill Up the Bowl" as a chantey.

The national popularity of “Johnny,” either filling the bowl or marching home, and the possibility of singing the stanzas and refrain in call-and-reponse form, made the song (or songs) easily adaptable.

Sailors hauling hand-over-hand on a vessel in New York Harbor in 1884 were heard to sing “We’ll all drink stone blind!” as well as “Yeo, hey ho, knock a man down!” (Daily Saratogian [Saratoga Springs, N.Y.], Oct. 20, 1884).
