David the bard on his bed of death lies is the version I remember singing at infants school about 1950, so 70 years ago. We used to listen to the wireless once a week and sing folk songs and this was one of them. Another was drink to me only with thine eyes. Quite a sad son but a lovely tune and as a six year old you just sang along with it and never thought about the meaning, a man dying and going to play his harp for the last time.
