Thread Name: Lyr Add: Mudcat singaround songs NOT in English
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: EHAD MI YODEA

EHAD MI YODEA has been translated into several languages including Hebrew and Yiddish. According to the link Monique gives to origins of the song, the Ladino version is probably older than the Hebrew version. My thought when I first read the English language translation was that this song could well be the inspiration for the theory that The Twelve Days of Christmas is a cryptic catechism (not a theory I find very plausible).

Do you know of any other songs which go to the same tune? It's one of the few tunes I've played on the tin whistle. I played it from memory as a girl used to sing it at a camp I went to one summer. I don't know what language she sang in, probably Hebrew (she sang Tzena, tzena also). But I remembered the tune as having a consistent length, not getting longer with each verse of the song.
