Just come to this thread because Kathryn Tickell played the song on Folk on 2 (a few weeks ago but I've just heard the programme)
No. I'd only used 'candy' in candy floss, but where do you think the Americans got their language from. I believe several of their expressions are old fashioned English usage.
Should we have called our rag-and-bone men 'goldfish men'? Last saw one with a horse and cart in Hull some 20 years ago.
