For those who are curious about the Sox uniforms - WARNING: NO FOLK MUSIC CONTENT HERE - from masslive.com:
"BOSTON -- The Red Sox are sporting a different look than usual this weekend at Fenway Park.
The team is wearing special yellow and blue uniforms as part of Nike’s MLB “City Connect” series, becoming the first of seven clubs to debut the set during the 2021 season. The jerseys capture the color scheme of the Boston Marathon, which is held annually on Patriots’ Day in the city.
“The City Connect uniform adopts colors that honor the spirit of Patriots’ Day weekend, and features ‘Boston’ in a stencil font across the chest paying tribute to the Boylston Street finish line,” the Red Sox said in a statement last week. “The numbers ’617' are highlighted on the left sleeve as a nod to the area code for Boston and Fenway Park. The numbers appear within a racing bib, honoring one of the city’s most iconic annual sports traditions.”
“We viewed the City Connect collaboration with Nike as an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of a weekend that is uniquely Boston,” Red Sox chief marketing officer Adam Grossman said in the statement. “The departure from our traditional style pays homage to that iconic weekend, and recognizes Boston’s boldness, culture and creativity.”
The Red Sox will wear the new uniforms twice -- for Saturday’s game and again for Game 1 of Sunday’s split doubleheader. On Monday, they’ll wear the white “B Strong” jerseys with Boston written across the front like they have annually on Patriots’ Day since 2013.
Manager Alex Cora is a fan of the temporary new look.
“It means a lot in different ways,” he said before Saturday’s game. “People have their own opinions about it. I was just joking with (former Dodger and UCLA alum) Erik Karros that we’re actually wearing them in honor of him. He’s doing the FOX game. UCLA. All kidding aside, it’s something different. It feels good. You look around the other leagues and they’re very open-minded about stuff like this and people like it. From what I’m getting, the feedback and all of that, people are very excited about it. It should be a fun weekend.”
Shortstop Xander Bogaerts said the colors make him feel right at home.
“It’s much different from red,” he said. “I’m gonna tell you that. We have a yellow and like a light blue. Kind of the colors of my country flag, Aruba. I don’t know if they had anything to do with that. I don’t know. But I feel like I’m playing for Aruba.”"
So now we know.....
