Subject: Lyr Add: Falling Behind
The most natural expression of being in the human race is for a woman to find a mate and become a mother. Alas, not everyone does, including the unnamed woman in this song.

Falling Behind, Rick Pollay (Mother's Day 2021)
Slow bluesy waltz ¾ in A (ca 3:50)

A. When she was just a teen, the boys all hung around
Encouraged by her laugh and other soft sounds.
Though awkward with both their talk and their hands,
Their actions, when she let them, she did well understand.
        B. In college she partied with eager frat boys
Who liked to get drunk - make a whole lot of noise.
She wanted them to hear what she thought and she felt,
But they only wanted a notch for their belt.
                C. A good man’s so very hard to find
and it’s not always easy to spot the wrong kind.
When she looked in the mirror this thought crossed her mind
“I hope that in this race that I’m not left behind.”

A. She got a job in the city selling high priced clothes.
She didn’t have to talk, just walk, smile and pose.
Men charmed her with smooth and oh so sweet talk
But long before morning, they’d up and walk.
        B. She mingled with the POSH while still in her prime
She was given fine gifts. Drank high priced wine.
She could see signs that read “Dead End Up Ahead.”
But they were eager to please her … at least in her bed.
                C. A good man’s so very hard to find
and it’s not always easy to spot the wrong kind.
When she looked in the mirror this thought crossed her mind
“I think in this race, I an falling behind.”

A. Well. now she’s grown older and still she lives alone
She contemplates Botox, silicone and cologne.
She isn’t blind to young girls more refined
She knows in this race – she has been left behind.
        B. So these days, a hard man be so good to find.
Even if sometimes cruel and too rarely kind.
If he lingers for a while, she surely won’t mind
It’s just another compromise to which she’s resigned.””
                C. ‘Cause a good man’s been so very hard to find
and it’s hasn’t been easy to spot the wrong kind.
When she looks in the mirror this thought’s on her mind
“I hope he’s not put off by my falling behind.” (x2)
