Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit
Fortunately for me and my logistical requirements, the action is at the other end of the county. Cornwall is long, thin at one end and thick at the other, and the G7 gang are meeting at the thin end, whereas Bude is at the thick end. There are thousands of cops in St Ives/Carbis Bay, in an area that doesn't even have its own police station, and Cornish people are not used to road blocks and coppers carrying weapons. I'll be steering clear, though my daughter does live a lot closer to proceedings, in Truro. The weather is damp, murky and muggy today, not Cornwall at its best, so a few of the dignitaries may be somewhat unimpressed. However, a barbecue weekend is forecast. I've laid in a supply of the sensationally good Portuguese red wine from Morrison's, Cidade Branca, currently £6.50, Dave...

What will come out of the meetings is probably less important than the bigwigs actually getting together in person and seeing that other countries are run by similarly vulnerable and imperfect human beings. As Dave says, progress on the climate emergency would be good (I was on the A30 near Launceston this morning and the banners were up on the flyovers). They'll have their own agendas, of course, and, as Maggie Thatcher once famously said, will not be wanting to go naked into the negotiating chamber. Whilst the very last thing I would ever have wanted to see was a tits-out Thatcher, it might actually have been quite a good idea...
